nightsinge made this request…btw…she’s very cool. 🙂
I love that you’re so positive and spiritual. That causes me to want to hear about: something entire mundane, something that totally annoys you (even–especially if you’re working to overcome it) or one of your human foibles.
I am glad I come across as being a positive person. I have however, been accused of being a Pollyanna type because of it. And to that I say…F U! You…have obviously…been shut out from the real me. heh
I will first make a non exhaustive list of the things that I am most intolerant of/annoyed by:
ignorant and uninformed people
racism and blind prejudice
terminally judgmental people
people who use their looks to manipulate others
And the most superficial….fake blonds who used to be beautiful brunettes & curly haired women who ALWAYS straighten their hair
Ok. I’ll elaborate on the one that I think I need to work on.
I am quite intolerant of people who are ignorant and uninformed about things I am informed about. I tend to expect others to share the same knowledge I share. Then, when it becomes clear that people are way on another page and or dumbfounded over what I am talking about, I get annoyed.
I am not talking about thinking people are dumb or not as smart as me. I am talking about the assumption that intelligent people are informed about political issues outside mainstream media, racial and social issues, current events, technology, etc.
I am working on this issue. If I never said anything about it no one would know. Although people who are close to me have told me they feel I have talked down to them at times. I don’t feel superior nor do I mean to belittle anyone. I just have certain expectations of common knowledge. I do know that my assumptions about what people should “just know” cause me to get annoyed and that I need to stay open minded as I am in most other aspects of my life.
I just get frustrated when people don’t get “it”.
I, like most, gravitate towards those who are like minded and share similar common knowledge. In fat, many of my friends and I read each other’s minds often. I think that adds to my frustration when some acquaintance is clueless. However, I am often told how patient I am…so my efforts must be paying off.
Related aside: To be totally honest, I really think that my own intolerance has been fed by others who have made assumptions about my intelligence or wisdom based on their intolerance of anyone who is not just like them. Example: college graduates who judge non college graduates as uniformed and dumb. Some of the most well informed, rational and intelligent people I know only graduated from high school but are very well read and self educated beyond many I know who graduated from college and seem to THINK they are knowledgeable but are more narrow minded and arrogant. *steps off soap box*
